Secure, Accredited, Zero-Cost

IT Recycling Edinburgh

The digital pulse of Edinburgh runs through its tech start-ups at Quartermile, finance houses on Lothian Road and research labs at BioQuarter, yet they all face the same risk from accumulated outdated hardware – data breaches, GDPR violations, and environmental harm from improper disposal. National IT Disposal eliminates all risks through a single visit. We collect and securely process devices for data destruction and circular economy distribution of reusable equipment, whilst completely avoiding landfill disposal.

The National IT Disposal process delivers complete data privacy protection and carbon reduction for your organisation through a single, audited, secure procedure that enables you to concentrate on upcoming projects instead of outdated equipment.

An overview

Dedicated Edinburgh IT Disposal

The corporate centre of Edinburgh operates continuously between St Andrew Square banking headquarters, Gogarburn’s global finance campus, and Fountainbridge tech hubs. The city’s fast-paced business landscape means that the technology upgrade cycle continuously accumulates outdated servers, engineering workstations, and sales laptops, which store confidential data and create unnecessary security risks.

National IT Disposal converts your redundant hardware liability into an environmental, social, and governance win. Our in-house team barcodes and records every asset at your premises, tracks it in GPS-monitored vans, and destroys data to NIST 800-88 standards at our secure facility. Useful items are refurbished and reintroduced into the circular economy, and remaining assets are recycled under strict WEEE rules, with no landfill waste.

The result: your organisation stays ahead of all data and WEEE legislation through verified audit-compliant documents and data destruction certificates. Edinburgh’s leading companies already rely on National IT Disposal; join them and keep your business moving confidently forward.

Transforming Obsolete Devices into Secure, Sustainable Outcomes

We’ve supported organisations throughout Edinburgh to recycle over 226,000 devices—including desktops, laptops, phones, tablets, and monitors—while safeguarding their confidential information. Our rigorous data destruction and refurbishment process keeps your data secure from collection to final destruction, and our zero-landfill commitment means we minimise waste every step of the way.

Whether you’re disposing of a handful of items or clearing an entire office, we prioritise both security and sustainability in every collection.

Edinburgh’s Definitive Solution for Risk-Free Data Destruction

Beneath The Mound is one of the UK’s most secure banking vaults which has protected Scotland’s wealth throughout the years without any reported thefts. Our data-destruction process follows the same impenetrable principle – we seal each data-bearing item before the data is destroyed to NIST 800-88 protocols, the gold standard of data destruction. All processing and data destruction is performed under DBS Enhanced checked operator control. Post destruction, double verification occurs to ensure that no data remains. Our data destruction process includes detailed documentation and strict security measures to prevent your retired devices from becoming security risks. The result: no residual data, no shadow copies, no restoration paths. National IT Disposal ensures your data ends where it began – with you alone and gone for good.

Compliance and Climate Action for Edinburgh in a Single Collection

The protection of data represents only half of our commitment; National IT Disposal maintains equal dedication to Edinburgh’s environmental well-being. Our zero-landfill pledge guides every collection process, from small PC removals in New Town studios to complete office floor decommissioning in South Gyle. Our expert refurbishment process gives more than 70 percent of processed hardware a new purpose, reducing the need for raw material extraction. The remaining 30% of material undergoes component separation for WEEE-regulated refinement to prevent any waste from entering landfills. Your organisation maintains compliance while reducing carbon emissions, helping Edinburgh move toward its net-zero goal.

How does the process work?

We provide full transparency throughout our procedures, delivering you satisfaction and peace of mind. We have outlined our process in 6 simple steps so you can see how easy it is working with us to safely dispose of your IT assets.

Step 1

Our First Meeting

Introduction & Understanding Your

Requirements

Contact us via phone, email or our website. You are then assigned a dedicated account manager who will be your contact throughout the entire process, providing continuity. Your disposal requirements are discussed and reviewed. We then generate a unique disposal plan that meets all of your needs.

Step 2

Coordinating the logistics

Confirming Your Collection

Your account manager will be in contact to arrange a collection date that suits yourself. Your collection confirmation will be available on your online portal account as well as emailed to you. We make sure all of your old equipment gets collected as soon as possible, thereby safeguarding your data.

Step 3

Retrieving your e-waste

Your Collection

Your collection operative(s) will professionally remove all agreed items from your site and load them into the vehicle in an independent manner, ensuring no disruption to your activities.

When loaded, you will be given a waste transfer notice to ensure compliance. If you have requested on site physical media destruction, our team will destroy the data bearing media on your premises and then take away the shredded waste for recycling. All of your collected items will be returned to National IT Disposal the same day to guarantee the security of your data.

Step 4
step 4 of IT recycling: destroying data

Secure, sustainable e-waste treatment

Equipment Processing, Data Erasure &

Treatment

Your collection is allocated to a dedicated engineer. We start working on the job within 24 hours of it being returned to National IT Disposal.

The equipment is separated into data holding and non data holding respectively. From here, all equipment is catalogued in preparation for your asset report. Your asset report lists each item collected and includes: Brand, model, serial number, specification and a unique National IT Disposal asset number. erased using government approved software or shredded down to 6mm particles, ensuring all stored data is permanently and irreversibly eliminated. An itemised certificate of data destruction for all data bearing media is then generated for your records.

Equipment that is not fit for re-marketing is fully decommissioned into raw materials. With our 0% landfill policy all recovered material is completely recycled, ready to be used in the manufacturing of new products.

Step 5

Financial rebates for your e-waste

Revenue Generation

National IT Disposal wants to help your business flourish, that’s why we provide a completely transparent rebate structure.

As opposed to passing a percentage back for qualifying items we give you a fixed monetary value for each qualifying item as it is fairer and unambiguous. This allows you to see exactly how much revenue you will be generating so you can financially plan. After we have processed your e-waste, your itemised report will contain rebate values against all qualifying items. You can quickly see how much revenue has been generated. Your positive return payment will then be paid by secure same day transfer so you have immediate access to your funds.

Step 6

Reports and certificates of data destruction

Reporting

After your e-waste has been treated, you are provided with your itemised final inventory report and data destruction certificates.

All certification is uploaded to your secure, encrypted client portal account and you are automatically notified that your documentation is ready.

You can download your certified documents and keep them as proof that you have taken every necessary step to responsibly recycle your e-waste and fully comply with privacy and data legislation.

Your National IT Disposal provided documentation ensures that related third party inspections or audits on your organisation proceed with ease.
