IT Recycling Liverpool

National IT Disposal provides secure computer recycling, IT asset disposal and data destruction services to businesses and organisations across Liverpool and the L postcode area. The Liverpool City Region Combined Authority has described Liverpool as being home to the highest concentration of infection research and development in the UK, worth £2bn a year and featuring institutions such as the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and the University of Liverpool. From the Knowledge Quarter to Speke and across L1–L40, end-of-life computers, servers, hard drives, SSDs, laptops, and mobile phones can retain sensitive information, including patient data, personal information, employees’ details, research information and commercially sensitive data, potentially even special category data under UK GDPR. When disposed of without controlled conditions and a documented chain of custody, these devices create data-security, regulatory, and reputational risk.

The Information Commissioner’s Office expects organisations to maintain an up-to-date asset register and a fully auditable log of all assets sent for disposal. National IT Disposal provides that evidence trail in full: on-site asset scanning, in-house chain of custody for all data-bearing equipment, detailed serial number reports that can be reconciled against your asset register, a Waste Transfer Note and serial-linked data sanitisation or destruction certificates for data-bearing equipment. Our data destruction policy is aligned with NIST SP 800-88 Rev. 2, the current NIST guidance for media sanitisation. Choose National IT Disposal for zero-cost collection and processing across Liverpool and the wider L postcode area.

IT Disposal’s own GPS tracked, CCTV monitored vehicles to our secure facility in Trafford Park, Manchester. Average journey time from collection to our Trafford Park facility is around 60 minutes, with no intermediate depot stops or storage points along the way. Devices are barcoded before collection and data bearing devices and media are then securely erased or destroyed using methods described in NIST SP 800-88 Rev. 2.

WHY BUSINESSES CHOOSE NATIONAL IT DISPOSAL

Documented Assurance for   Liverpool IT Collections

Understand who handles your equipment, the independent testing behind our erasure software, the insurance documentation available and how reuse is prioritised. National IT Disposal brings these four assurances together for Liverpool organisations, with supporting documents and sources to review.

  • ONE IN-HOUSE PROCESSOR

Your data-bearing media stays with National IT Disposal

Every data-bearing device collected in Liverpool is handled by National IT Disposal’s own DBS-checked staff, transported in its own GPS-tracked and CCTV-monitored vehicles, and treated at its Trafford Park facility. No sub-processor handles your data-bearing media.

National IT Disposal does not use sub-processors to handle your data-bearing media. Data-bearing media is erased or physically destroyed in-house before onward reuse or recycling. Downstream material recovery follows data treatment. Under UK GDPR Article 28 , appointing another processor requires the controller’s written authorisation. Our written agreements set out each party’s responsibilities, alongside the customer’s continuing due diligence described in ICO guidance .

    • No sub-processors for data-bearing media
    • Own staff and fleet
    • Treated before onward routing

One in-house route from collection through data treatment.

  • INDEPENDENT ERASURE TESTING

Independently tested software for drive erasure

National IT Disposal erases data-bearing media as a Certus Authorised Partner. Certus Erasure has ADISA Product Assurance Certification at Assurance Level 5 for named software versions and media types, providing independent evidence about the tested product.

The ADISA public certification register shows which versions of Certus erasure software have passed independent testing, which types of drives they cover and when the certificates expire. This certification covers the software. National IT Disposal’s asset records and erasure results show which of your devices were processed at Trafford Park and whether each erasure was successful. Any data-bearing item that does not pass 100% erasure verification is physically destroyed in-house.

    • ADISA Assurance Level 5
    • Version-specific certification
    • Certus Authorised Partner

Check the software certificate and its scope on ADISA’s register.

  • NAMED INSURANCE UNDERWRITERS

Documented professional, public and cyber cover

National IT Disposal carries professional indemnity and public liability cover underwritten by Hiscox, and cyber insurance underwritten by AIG. Liverpool procurement teams can review our insurance certificates and registration documents on the accreditations page for supplier due diligence.

Cover for collection work and any on-site destruction at Liverpool premises is subject to the relevant policy terms, limits and exclusions. On-site requirements are agreed in advance. Our insurance documentation identifies the underwriter and the cover held, giving your organisation documents to review when assessing National IT Disposal’s services.

    • Hiscox professional and public liability
    • AIG cyber insurance

Named underwriters, supported by policy documentation.

  • REUSE BEFORE RECYCLING

Reuse first, supported by a registered T11 exemption

National IT Disposal assesses Liverpool equipment for reuse before recycling. Suitable data-bearing equipment is erased and prepared for further use at Trafford Park. Our registered T11 WEEE exemption, EXP/UP3141YT, permits specified repair, refurbishment and dismantling activities within the exemption’s conditions.

Preparing for reuse sits above recycling in the waste hierarchy set out in regulation 12 of the Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2011 . Equipment that cannot be reused follows authorised WEEE routes under National IT Disposal’s zero-landfill policy. The Environment Agency’s T11 guidance explains the scope and conditions of the exemption.

    • Reuse assessed first
    • Zero-landfill policy

Reuse assessed first, with remaining equipment routed for recovery.

Liverpool computer recycling and IT disposal FAQs

Answers for Liverpool businesses on collection costs, data destruction, asset tracking and the records you receive.

Which areas of Liverpool do you collect business IT equipment from?

National IT Disposal collects business IT equipment across Liverpool and the wider L postcode area, including city-centre offices, the Baltic Triangle, the Knowledge Quarter, Wavertree and Speke. Collections can also be arranged from surrounding business locations such as Bootle, Huyton and Kirkby.

The L postcode area extends beyond Liverpool's city boundary. Provide your full collection postcode, equipment list and access details so the collection can be planned for your premises.

Is computer recycling free for Liverpool businesses?

National IT Disposal offers zero-cost collection for qualifying business IT equipment in Liverpool. Eligibility depends on the equipment and the work involved, so the collection scope and any charges are confirmed before booking.

The assessment considers:

  • The type, quantity, age and condition of the equipment.
  • Its potential for reuse or material recovery.
  • Site access and collection requirements.
  • Additional services, such as on-site data destruction or specialist handling.

A small collection can still be considered. Zero-cost eligibility is assessed separately from collection size.

Is there a minimum or maximum number of devices you will collect?

National IT Disposal has no fixed minimum or maximum collection quantity. Liverpool organisations can arrange disposal of a single eligible device, an office refresh or a larger IT estate.

The equipment mix, collection arrangements and any charges are confirmed in advance. Larger projects can be planned in stages to suit the site and the volume of equipment.

How quickly can you collect old computers from Liverpool?

Most standard Liverpool IT collections can normally be arranged within one week once the equipment list, location and site requirements have been confirmed. Urgent, weekend or out-of-hours collections can be considered by agreement, subject to availability.

For city-centre offices and managed buildings, tell National IT Disposal about loading bays, parking restrictions, goods lifts and permitted collection times when booking. These details help the team plan the collection around your building's access arrangements.

What types of IT equipment can you collect in Liverpool?

National IT Disposal collects business computers, IT infrastructure and data-bearing devices from Liverpool organisations. Typical collections include:

  • Desktops, laptops, workstations and all-in-one computers.
  • Monitors, printers and associated IT peripherals.
  • Servers, storage systems, switches and other networking equipment.
  • Business mobile phones and tablets.
  • Loose hard drives, SSDs, flash storage and backup tapes.

Send an equipment list before booking so acceptance and handling requirements can be confirmed. Tell the team about damaged devices or batteries and any unusual items.

Do we need to erase or factory-reset our computers before collection?

You do not normally need to erase devices before a National IT Disposal collection when data sanitisation is part of the agreed service. First, back up the information your organisation must retain and obtain authorisation to dispose of the equipment.

Deleting files or quick-formatting a drive does not establish that its data has been securely sanitised. A manufacturer's reset may be suitable for some devices, but its effectiveness depends on the device and method used. National IT Disposal records the agreed erasure or destruction outcome against the asset.

If your policy requires data treatment before equipment leaves your premises, arrange the on-site service in advance.

Who handles our equipment, and where is it processed after collection?

National IT Disposal's own DBS-checked staff collect your Liverpool equipment and transport it in the company's GPS-tracked, CCTV-monitored vehicles. Processing takes place at National IT Disposal's Trafford Park facility in Manchester.

  1. At your premises, the operative scans and records assets by barcode or serial number, starting the documented chain of custody.
  2. At Trafford Park, equipment is checked in and reconciled for processing.
  3. Data-bearing media is erased or physically destroyed in-house before onward reuse or material recovery.

National IT Disposal does not use sub-processors to handle your data-bearing media.

How do you erase data from hard drives and SSDs?

National IT Disposal uses Certus erasure software as a Certus Authorised Partner, with data sanitisation aligned with NIST SP 800-88 Rev. 2. The treatment is selected for the media type, its condition and your organisation's security requirements.

Erasure results are linked to the asset record, with Certus logs supporting the Data Sanitisation Certificate. Where erasure is unsuitable, cannot be verified successfully or does not meet the agreed requirement, the data-bearing media is physically destroyed.

Degaussing is a treatment for suitable magnetic media. It is not a sanitisation method for SSDs or other flash storage.

Supporting sources: NIST SP 800-88 Rev. 2

What happens if a drive is faulty or fails erasure verification?

Any data-bearing item that does not pass National IT Disposal's 100% erasure verification requirement is physically destroyed in-house. A failed erasure is not recorded as a successful sanitisation.

This includes media that cannot be successfully erased because of faults, access problems or an unsuccessful verification result. The destruction outcome is recorded against the asset and supported by the relevant certificate.

Can you destroy data at our Liverpool premises?

Yes. National IT Disposal can arrange on-site data destruction at Liverpool business premises where data-bearing media must be treated before leaving the site. The method, equipment and access requirements are agreed before the visit.

The treatment depends on the media and required outcome:

  • Suitable magnetic hard drives and tapes can be degaussed.
  • Physical destruction is selected to suit the media and the agreed security requirement.
  • SSDs and flash storage require an appropriate erasure or destruction method, rather than degaussing.

Tell the team if you require physical destruction, degaussing or a particular documented outcome, so the correct service is booked.

What reports and certificates will we receive, and how long do they take?

National IT Disposal provides records linking collected assets to their processing outcomes. Standard final reporting is normally completed within 14–21 working days after collection, with a separate timetable agreed for large or complex projects.

Depending on the agreed service, your records include:

  • A Waste Transfer Note and, where required, a Hazardous Waste Consignment Note.
  • An itemised asset report with barcode and serial-number records.
  • Data Sanitisation Certificates supported by Certus erasure logs.
  • Data Destruction or Data Degaussed Certificates for the treatment carried out.

Reports and certificates are available through the client portal, alongside processing updates. Waste movement paperwork and final data-treatment certificates serve different purposes.

How does your service support our GDPR and business-waste responsibilities?

National IT Disposal supports Liverpool organisations with documented collection, controlled data treatment and records of equipment outcomes. These records help your organisation demonstrate how retired IT and its data were handled.

Your organisation still needs to:

  • Authorise disposal and preserve information it must retain.
  • Assess the provider and agree written data-processing responsibilities where applicable.
  • Check the waste carrier's registration and retain the appropriate waste records.
  • Review asset reports and certificates against the equipment released.

Collection or certification does not automatically remove your organisation's responsibilities under UK GDPR or waste law.

Can you handle IT containing patient records, research data or confidential client information?

National IT Disposal can arrange secure IT disposal for Liverpool organisations holding sensitive information, including healthcare providers, education and research organisations, legal firms and other professional services businesses.

Agree the data-treatment method, asset records and any requirement for on-site destruction before collection. For equipment used in clinical or laboratory settings, also identify contamination risks or specialist handling requirements before booking.

Patient records, research data and confidential client files may have different retention and security requirements. Your organisation's authorised IT, information-governance or procurement contact should approve the disposal plan.

Do we need to pack, palletise or prepare the equipment?

Equipment does not normally need to be boxed or palletised before National IT Disposal arrives. Keep it together in a secure collection area and agree any disconnection or specialist removal work before the visit.

To prepare for collection:

  • Provide an equipment list or the best available quantity estimate.
  • Confirm the site contact, full postcode and collection access.
  • Back up required information and obtain disposal authorisation.
  • Tell the team about account locks, device-management restrictions, missing drives or damaged batteries.
  • Identify stairs, goods lifts, parking restrictions and timed loading access.

The collection operative records and containerises the equipment for secure transport.

Can you collect from several Liverpool sites or coordinate an office closure?

Yes. National IT Disposal can coordinate collections across multiple Liverpool and Merseyside business premises, including office closures, relocations and phased equipment refreshes.

A dedicated account manager brings together the equipment lists, site contacts, collection dates and security requirements. Each location can have its own collection record while reporting is coordinated across the project. Collections from additional sites elsewhere in England, Scotland and Wales can form part of the same plan.

Will our old computers be reused or recycled?

National IT Disposal assesses equipment collected in Liverpool for reuse before recycling. Suitable equipment is prepared for further use after the required data treatment has been completed successfully.

Equipment that cannot be reused follows authorised WEEE recycling routes under National IT Disposal's zero-landfill policy. Failed erasure does not justify releasing a data-bearing device for reuse: media that fails the verification requirement is physically destroyed.

Tell the team before collection if your organisation's policy restricts reuse or requires physical destruction.

Can we take old business computers to Otterspool or Old Swan recycling centre?

No. Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority states that its household waste recycling centres do not accept trade or commercial waste. This includes Liverpool's Otterspool and Old Swan centres.

Old computers from a business need an appropriate commercial collection or disposal route. National IT Disposal can assess your equipment for collection from your business premises, with the agreed data treatment and documentation.

Supporting sources: Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority rules

How can we check National IT Disposal's credentials before booking?

Liverpool procurement teams can review National IT Disposal's registration, partnership and insurance documents on its accreditations page before appointing the company.

Check the evidence relevant to your project, including:

  • Environment Agency waste-carrier registration and applicable environmental authorisations.
  • ICO registration and the agreed data-processing terms.
  • Certus Authorised Partner evidence and the scope of any software certification.
  • Relevant insurance cover, policy limits and exclusions.

ADISA's Certus register identifies tested software versions and media scope. Product certification concerns the software; your asset records and treatment results provide evidence of what happened to your equipment.
