What are the processes involved?

If you would like to know more about how the IT Asset Disposal process works, the following is an in depth process structure of how we operate at National IT Disposal from start to finish. We’re here to help you understand our procedures to make you aware that your needs will be fulfilled to the best available standard in the industry.

Local Fleet, Local Facility, Global-Standard Security

National IT Disposal combines Mancunian rationality with international best practice. Your hardware stays within Greater Manchester borders, but every process follows international security standards. Our team performs barcode application, logs, and collects devices at your premises. Devices then arrive at our Trafford Park facility. Data-bearing media receives NIST 800-88 and GDPR compliant sanitisation or physical destruction.

Our closed-loop process produces global-grade compliance certificates, proving your data is gone forever and your e-waste never touches landfills; that’s why Manchester businesses trust National IT Disposal.

Transforming Obsolete Devices into Secure, Sustainable Outcomes

We’ve supported organisations throughout Manchester to recycle over 278,000 devices—including desktops, laptops, phones, tablets, and monitors—while safeguarding their confidential information. Our rigorous data destruction and refurbishment process keeps your data secure from collection to final destruction, and our zero-landfill commitment means we minimise waste every step of the way.

Whether you’re disposing of a handful of items or clearing an entire office, we prioritise both security and sustainability in every collection.

Manchester’s Gold-Standard for Confidential Data Destruction

The volume of corporate and customer information we have securely destroyed for Manchester businesses equals the amount that could fill every floor of Manchester Central Library from floor to ceiling. Our DBS-vetted technicians perform NIST 800-88 erasure or physical destruction under secure protocols at our Trafford Park facility. You receive tamper-proof certificates and complete chain-of-custody logs for GDPR and auditor review purposes. Our data destruction process provides verifiable, iron-clad results that enable you to confidently state your information has been completely eliminated.

Greener Greater Manchester: Turning E-Waste into Environmental Wins

National IT Disposal has diverted 1.2 million KG of e-waste from Greater Manchester landfill during the past three years by refurbishing 89 % of collected devices and recycling the remaining portion to WEEE standards. The reuse-first approach has prevented 890 tonnes of CO₂-equivalent emissions which equals the yearly electricity usage of 1,000 Manchester homes. Our component-recovery programme has recovered more than 75 tonnes of copper, aluminium and precious metals which reduces the requirement for energy-intensive mining operations and maintains vital resources in circulation. Your collection booking contributes to Manchester’s progress toward its net-zero objective.

How does the process work?

We provide full transparency throughout our procedures, delivering you satisfaction and peace of mind. We have outlined our process in 6 simple steps so you can see how easy it is working with us to safely dispose of your IT assets.

Step 1

Our First Meeting

Introduction & Understanding Your

Requirements

Contact us via phone, email or our website. You are then assigned a dedicated account manager who will be your contact throughout the entire process, providing continuity. Your disposal requirements are discussed and reviewed. We then generate a unique disposal plan that meets all of your needs.

Step 2

Coordinating the logistics

Confirming Your Collection

Your account manager will be in contact to arrange a collection date that suits yourself. Your collection confirmation will be available on your online portal account as well as emailed to you. We make sure all of your old equipment gets collected as soon as possible, thereby safeguarding your data.

Step 3

Retrieving your e-waste

Your Collection

Your collection operative(s) will professionally remove all agreed items from your site and load them into the vehicle in an independent manner, ensuring no disruption to your activities.

When loaded, you will be given a waste transfer notice to ensure compliance. If you have requested on site physical media destruction, our team will destroy the data bearing media on your premises and then take away the shredded waste for recycling. All of your collected items will be returned to National IT Disposal the same day to guarantee the security of your data.

Step 4
step 4 of IT recycling: destroying data

Secure, sustainable e-waste treatment

Equipment Processing, Data Erasure &

Treatment

Your collection is allocated to a dedicated engineer. We start working on the job within 24 hours of it being returned to National IT Disposal.

The equipment is separated into data holding and non data holding respectively. From here, all equipment is catalogued in preparation for your asset report. Your asset report lists each item collected and includes: Brand, model, serial number, specification and a unique National IT Disposal asset number. erased using government approved software or shredded down to 6mm particles, ensuring all stored data is permanently and irreversibly eliminated. An itemised certificate of data destruction for all data bearing media is then generated for your records.

Equipment that is not fit for re-marketing is fully decommissioned into raw materials. With our 0% landfill policy all recovered material is completely recycled, ready to be used in the manufacturing of new products.

Step 5

Financial rebates for your e-waste

Revenue Generation

National IT Disposal wants to help your business flourish, that’s why we provide a completely transparent rebate structure.

As opposed to passing a percentage back for qualifying items we give you a fixed monetary value for each qualifying item as it is fairer and unambiguous. This allows you to see exactly how much revenue you will be generating so you can financially plan. After we have processed your e-waste, your itemised report will contain rebate values against all qualifying items. You can quickly see how much revenue has been generated. Your positive return payment will then be paid by secure same day transfer so you have immediate access to your funds.

Step 6

Reports and certificates of data destruction

Reporting

After your e-waste has been treated, you are provided with your itemised final inventory report and data destruction certificates.

All certification is uploaded to your secure, encrypted client portal account and you are automatically notified that your documentation is ready.

You can download your certified documents and keep them as proof that you have taken every necessary step to responsibly recycle your e-waste and fully comply with privacy and data legislation.

Your National IT Disposal provided documentation ensures that related third party inspections or audits on your organisation proceed with ease.
